Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Explore answers to common questions about TalkPRO radios, licensing, product selection, service support, and PoC communication.

1. What are License-Free Walkie Talkies?

License-free walkie-talkies are two-way radios that operate on the PMR446 frequency band (446 – 446.2 MHz) and can be used in India without obtaining a wireless operating licence from the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing. They are commonly used in retail stores, hotels, warehouses, educational institutions, events, and other workplaces where short-range communication is required.

To be legally sold and used in India, these radios must have a valid Equipment Type Approval (ETA) issued by the WPC. They operate with a maximum Effective Radiated Power (ERP) of 0.5W.

Licensed walkie-talkies operate on frequency bands allocated by the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing and require approval before they can be used. They are intended for organisations that need greater coverage, higher transmit power, or dedicated communication networks. Licensed radio systems are widely used in manufacturing, mining, transportation, ports, utilities, construction, defence, and public safety. They can also include repeaters, base stations, and mobile radios to support communication across large sites.

Applications for licensed radio systems are submitted through the Government of India’s Saral Sanchar portal, managed by the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing.

The process generally involves:

  • Registering on the Saral Sanchar portal.
  • Providing the required organisation and equipment details.
  • Paying the applicable statutory fees.
  • Receiving approval from the WPC before operating the radio system

If you are unsure which licence applies to your organisation, the TalkPRO team can help you understand the process.

PoC (Push-to-Talk over Cellular) radios use 4G or Wi-Fi networks instead of conventional radio frequencies. This allows users to communicate across cities, states, or even nationwide, as long as network coverage is available. TalkPRO’s 4GL PoC radio supports instant push-to-talk communication, GPS tracking, group calling, and centralised user management, making it suitable for logistics, transportation, security, field operations, and organisations with geographically distributed teams. A valid SIM card and an active mobile data plan are required to operate a PoC radio. Network charges are applicable based on your service provider’s plan.
