Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Explore answers to common questions about TalkPRO radios, licensing, product selection, service support, and PoC communication.
1. What are License-Free Walkie Talkies?
License-free walkie-talkies are two-way radios that operate on the PMR446 frequency band (446 – 446.2 MHz) and can be used in India without obtaining a wireless operating licence from the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing. They are commonly used in retail stores, hotels, warehouses, educational institutions, events, and other workplaces where short-range communication is required.
To be legally sold and used in India, these radios must have a valid Equipment Type Approval (ETA) issued by the WPC. They operate with a maximum Effective Radiated Power (ERP) of 0.5W.
2. What are Licensed Walkie Talkies?
3. How do I obtain a licence for a licensed radio system?
Applications for licensed radio systems are submitted through the Government of India’s Saral Sanchar portal, managed by the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing.
The process generally involves:
- Registering on the Saral Sanchar portal.
- Providing the required organisation and equipment details.
- Paying the applicable statutory fees.
- Receiving approval from the WPC before operating the radio system
If you are unsure which licence applies to your organisation, the TalkPRO team can help you understand the process.
